During this week, our team made further developments into our lobby scene and the two risky driving scenarios and improving the car interface.

​

Vehicle Improvements

  • New grab-able steering wheel now allows steering within VR 

  • Within the vehicle, player can now view speedometer related info. as well as points accumulated, both are displayed as numbers on the windshield

​

Lobby Level

  • A new scene set up with a classroom setting, instructions listed on the blackboard

  • Player may select which scene to go to by pressing Y within the lobby

  • Player within any of the two scenarios may come back to the lobby by pressing Y on controller

Progress on our Risky Driving Scenarios

Both

  • Added new & more walking Pedestrian on sidewalks​

  • Added more NPC cars of different types

  • Points system implemented (specific implementation for point loses will be added during Gold development phase, this includes not stopping a stop sign or pass red traffic lights, etc.)

  • Added collision effects with respective sound tracks in both scenarios:

    • ​Player may crash into pedestrians and pedestrians will fly out, corresponding sounds effects have been implemented

1. Text & Driving Scenario

  • Created Grab-able phone object on the front passenger seat

  • Phone object now allows texting (including all 26 alphabets, space, and allows text to be deleted)

  • Texting window only shows up when the player grabs the phone

2. Drunk & Driving Scenario​

  • Implemented feature where user starts off 'sober' and progressively the drunk effect starts​ to kick in.

Testing and Feedback:  

  • Conducted preliminary testing sessions with team members; further play test is scheduled for November 27th, involving external developers for more comprehensive feedback

Preliminary Plans for Next Steps (Week of 11/22/2023):  â€‹

  • Drunk Driving:​

    • Add a sensitivity node to the effect such that the user can choose how severe the drunk effect will be.

  • VR Scenarios Improvements (text and driving & drunk driving)​

    • Implement prompts and reminder messages within each of the two scenarios

    • Iterate on the VR simulations based on feedback received during testing sessions. 

    • Create specific goal for player to achieve within the city to make the application more enjoyable and goal-oriented
